Sylvia Zamora was appointed to the Bexar County Child Welfare Board (BCCWB) in January 2017 by County Judge Nelson Wolff. She serves on the Children’s Committee and serves as liaison between the Board and the PAL (Preparation for Adult Living) Program and will be coordinating the new ASAP (A Serenity Activity Pack) Program with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department helping with the distribution of ASAP Bags.
Sylvia retired from education after 25 years of service as a high school teacher and then senior guidance counselor and college retention specialist. She now helps withher family business ZAMTEX Properties and occasionally does Educational Consulting. She is also very active in her community.
Along with her volunteer work with BCCWB, she is an active member and District Board member of the non-profit International organization, Altrusa International of San Antonio, TX, Inc.
Sylvia is a church lector and a member of the social committee in her HOA. She is a member of the San Antonio Women’s Federation. Her commitment to serving others is a trait instilled in her as a child by her mother, Lydia and reinforced in school by her teachers. Sylvia is always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Her strong dedication and commitment to service to better our communities is demonstrated in her daily words and action.
Sylvia has been married for over 46 years to her high school sweetheart Ruben and they have two grown children and one beautiful granddaughter. Her daughter Lauren is an attorney in San Antonio. Her son Aaron is a Medical Device Sales representative. Granddaughter, Isabella, is a freshman at Brandeis High School and is apple of her grandmother’s eye. Sylvia enjoys reading, traveling, attending sporting events and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
